[audio]1946 WCCO Stay At Home Campaign - WA4CZD
Polio outbreaks in the United States in the summer of 1946 were at an all-time high. In Minneapolis, Minnesota there was a voluntary quarantine - and with no newspaper delivery boys there was no Sunday Funnies. Mayor (and future Vice President) Hubert H. Humphrey came to the rescue and read the Sunday comics over WCCO (and did a pretty good job). There is more about the Stay At Home Campaign and this broadcast at the Minneapolis Star Tribune: http://www.startribune.com/local/blogs/116452338.html

[audio]V-Discs 100-199 1944 - WA4CZD
During WWII the government produced and distributed 78 RPM "Victory Discs," or V-Discs, to U.S. troops all over the world. The records were to be destroyed after the war but many of them survived. :) A lot of the V-Disc material was taken from radio programs like Command Performance; you can find out more in the book V-Discs: A History and Discography by Richard Sears. Any error or typo is mine. :) Since the gov't produced and distributed these records they are public domain but if you intend to...
